Not everyone is cut out for the Erin Brockovich style success, but if you are… Here are some great tips for using her dedicated, determined, and well-developed sense of integrity for getting to the core of achievement.
Settle for Nothing LESS Success
Winston Churchill when speaking to a graduation ceremony, spoke for forty five minutes, reiterating his determination, and methods for achieving success, in three words. NEVER GIVE UP. When you follow his plan you leave room to achieve, because nothing less than ultimate achievement of success is even an option for you, in your plan of accomplishment. You can’t lose, because it isn’t an option.
When Erin Brockovich sets out to accomplish a goal, to solve a problem, to fix a wrong, she becomes unstoppable. You can’t put on the brakes, because she doesn’t have any. She focuses on the outcome, which is success based, and visualizes no other alternative.
In her words, “People don’t live this way.” We live to succeed.
Look UP And Keep Climbing
We’ve all been there, perched on the edge of our goal, waiting for direction. That’s when we LOOK UP and don’t stop. We keep climbing, because ‘down’ isn’t a direction we’re willing to consider.
One step at a time –
When we feel overwhelmed with options, we look at our goal, we focus on the ultimate end point, and we take the path closest to the line of sight.
On a recent trip to see my son, I realized the direct line of sight path was under construction, so I opted to take the scenic route – veering off the main road through small town USA to get to my destination without the construction. In most instances, I tend to prefer the back roads anyway, because I like stopping at small diners, off the beaten path. But this particular trip, I was pushed for time, and had no excess of cash, so my intent was to find the fastest path to him, and still avoid the construction. In doing so, I kept running into road blocks.
After one particular road block the option to get back on the highway seemed the better way to go, so I pulled onto the highway. I passed four vehicles in the first ten minutes or so of being on the highway, and the 2nd vehicle belonged to a friend who had been leaving town at the same time I left.
Taking the round about way to get to that point, I’d made no better time than the other person, who took the highway.
I remained on the highway and drove through the maze of construction, arriving at my son’s home well within our allotted travel time.
Lesson Learned: If taking the alternative options is done for a good reason, no problem, but they probably aren’t going to save you time over line of sight travel.
Don’t give up –
Erin Brockovich style success isn’t always the easiest path, but it is the most determined path.
