Money money money money, MONEY!
I have only been asked, “How do you make money blogging?” roughly 425,000,000 times during my 10 year blogging career.
Many bloggers struggle horribly to earn blogging income because they blog to get, versus blogging to give. The masses of failing bloggers see this medium as a way to get money. Intelligent, energetically aligned bloggers see blogging as a way to have fun and to help folks.
You get money by giving value. Those who give massive value get some serious dough.
Blog predominantly to have fun. Blog your passion. Tie that passion into some pressing problem.
I love blogging. I love traveling. I decided to help people build successful blogs by sharing smart blogging tips. I worked my travel stories into my blog to add a playful, fun element to my brand that has helped me stand out in the blogging tips niche.
By blogging your passion you have fuel for your blogging journey. Solve a specific reader problem to resonate with the needs of your audience. Then dive into these 2 steps to make money through your blog.
1: Develop Your Skills
Most bloggers skip this step entirely.
Some bloggers follow this step for a few days.
Other bloggers follow this step for a few months.
The bloggers who earn a full time income through their blog follow this step for years.
Practice your writing. Hone your content creating skills. Network persistently to learn how to build your friend base.
Why do people buy my eBooks and courses and audio books? I practiced writing. I practiced creating videos. I developed my skills daily over years to stand out in my blogging niche.
The money is not in your email list. The money is in the skills you persistently develop over the long haul.
Write 1000 words daily in a Word document just for practice. Trash the document to cultivate an air of detachment about your writing. Build your blogging skill set on a rock solid foundation by finding your one of a kind writing voice.
Practice creating helpful, targeted content for your readers by publishing at least 1-2 posts weekly on your blog. Publishing free content persistently inspires readers to buy your premium products and services.
Diligently promote other bloggers through:
- Social media
- Interviews on your blog
- Features on your blog
- Guest posting
Example; after Jan publishes this post I will promote it to my 60,000 member following. This gives both of us increased exposure.
Learning how to network by generously serving, promoting and endorsing other bloggers is a skill you need to patiently cultivate in a world of bloggers predominantly looking out for themselves. Find connected, popular bloggers in your niche who seem to pop up everywhere and mimic their generosity. Chances are these folks aggressively promote other successful bloggers, building their friend network, guest posting prolifically and blog commenting like a champion.
The skill-building advice confuses most bloggers because the struggling masses want to skip to step #2. Unless you become a skilled, helpful, in-demand blogger you won’t inspire people to know, like and trust you and you certainly won’t inspire people to buy from you.
Focus most of your energies on step #1. The quality of your content and richness of your blogging skill set determines how much money you will make online.
Step #2 is about opening income streams through which you receive money for the value you offer to your readers.
2: Monetize through Income Streams
Monetize your passions.
Open one income stream every 3-6 months that you enjoy working.
I love writing so I wrote 126 eBooks and offer freelance writing services.
I also dig being a ham for the camera so I added extensive video to my blogging courses. Toss in my love for chatting and you know I had to create an audio course for bloggers.
Monetizing your passions inspires you to study, learn about and practice working income streams over a sustained period. If you genuinely enjoy your work you will stick with these income streams during dry spells as you learn your craft.
Commit fully to learning and earning through one income stream over a 3-6 month period. Add another income stream to diversify your income channels and to increase your blogging profits.
I earn through the following blogging income streams:
- Selling blogging courses
- Selling eBooks
- Selling audio books
- Selling paperbacks
- Selling advertising space
- Accepting sponsored posts
- Blog coaching
- Various consulting services
- Affiliate marketing (specifically, Amazon Associates)
I receive monthly royalty payments for my eBook, audiobook and paperback sales. I also receive monthly commission payments for my Amazon Associates sales. Toss in payments for my course sales in addition to revenue from advertising, sponsored posts, blog coaching and various consulting services and I have a well-diversified collection of blogging income streams that I add to regularly.
